Orly - Fowl Play

Hi fellow nail polish lovers!!

Today I have another Orly polish to share with you that is full of flaky goodness.  Orly Fowl Play is from the Birds of a Feather collection released in 2011.  I'd seen tons of pictures of it online, but couldn't find it anywhere, so I was very excited when I finally found it (I can't even remember where at this point, smh).

Fowl Play is a purple jelly base with orange and blue flakies and microshimmer.  the formula was really good and it applied really well.  Here I used Sally Hansen Triple Strong as a base, three coats of Fowl Play and Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat.

You can't tell me this polish isn't absolutely gorgeous!! I love it so much.  It's so full of colorful flaky goodness.  I'm so happy to have this one.

I must share my drama with this polish though.  When I first opened the bottle I realized that the brush had broken off from the stem of the cap.

I automatically panicked and thought I couldn't use it, but after sharing the picture on Instagram, I got a suggestion to use a brush from another polish (I don't know why I didn't think of that myself).  Since my Nail Defense was finished, I decided to use that brush.  I have to say I was disappointed when I reached out to Orly on facebook and got no response.  Thankfully I was able to use the polish anyway.

What do you guys think of Fowl Play?  Are you a flaky lover?  Has a brush ever fallen off of your polish cap?

  1. I love this shade!

I haven't had a brush break off but I did have the neck of a bottle break unexpectedly once. I just decanted it all into an empty Seche Vite bottle and all has been well.

  2. Totally fabulous--this is one of my favourites of all time! I've definitely never had the brush fall off in my polish before, though. How weird!

  5. You can email Orly and they will send you a new brush :) I love love love this color, and own it. But it takes FOREVER to dry, even with seche. It smudged so bad, even an hour later. And what didn't smudge shrunk. Are you having this problems at all?

    1. Kat, I experienced slight shrinkage with SV, but it wasn't too bad. And I didn't notice a long dry time.

  7. Gorgeous polish! I really need to add it to my collection. That sucks about the brush! The only time that has happened to me was with one of my Icing polishes.

  9. I love Fowl Play! I felt like the formula of it was strange though, a little on the thick and goopy side. Is you're like that? Totally worth the application issues I had because it's an awesome polish!

I've never has a brush fall off before. That's bizarre. O__o

    1. My formula was actually fine. The brush was the only issue I had.

    2. Maybe you could add a few drops of thinner. It is worth a shot!!

  14. I do like this color - when it came out I had no idea Orly would make it part of their reg. line and I bought 4 bottles of it! I thought I would use it over my 2 (or maybe I have 3 or 4 now) bottles of OPI Merry Midnight from Holiday Wishes 2009 collection. This Orly is not a dupe but it's close - MM is more glowing and less of the flakies go sinking in it IMHO. But for many it's really close enough and since MM is beyond VHTF this one more than passes - I wish this Orly was shinnier and a tish less blackened in the purple base. I never had a brush break off and I have more than 1500 shades - not counting all my dups! I would have taken it back where I bought it - most places will take ones back - esp if you buy it at a drug store. I doubt anyone monitors the FB Orly site...you might look for a customer service # for them or ask someone at a beauty supply that carry's Orly who their rep is and go at it that way - you might end up getting a whole collection from Orly for review! Glad you pulled a treatment top/brush you were done with and used that. I go through a ton of Orly Nail Armor which is my go to all time fav base ever...I don't have ridges and it's a hardener, moisture & ridge filler and I use about 3 coats of it before every mani and pedi - my nails don't stain with it and don't peel either now between that and tons of Barielle Intensive Treatment Oil that is now available at Sally's in their pro Barielle line only it's called something different in the Pro line...best oil I ever used on my nails, cuticles and skin around them both.

  15. I had a similar experience with an Essie polish. The brush was missing altogether...it just had the lid..no stem or anything. I contacted Essie directly thru their website, not facebook. I asked if the could just send me a new brush for it...I mean they are still in production with new polishes all the time so I didn't think it would be a big deal to send me a brush right? Wrong...but...they sent me a refund for the polish. I still don't get why they couldn't have just sent a stinking brush. I had even tried to do an exchange at the store where I purchased it but they are out of the polish as well as every other store around here. It is the As Gold As It Gets topper...only Ebay and Amazon have it from what I have found. But I digress...I got the refund and all is good....except I still have a polish with no brush LOL. I will have to wait until I use up something else before I can rob the brush from another bottle. =/

  16. That is so so sad about the brush. I love this polish; I got it as a gift with purchase at Sally Beauty not too long ago and I blogged about it. It looks great on you!

  17. I feel like I'm the only person that didn't really like this polish :P I don't hate it or anything but I just think it's ok.

  18. This is one of my favorites from Orly! Glad you could find it in the end. Can't believe I haven't worn it in over a year. Means I have too many polishes. Sorry about the brush breaking off. It never happened to me (yet) but I would be so mad if it did!
