Twinsie Tuesday - Half Moon Manicure

Hi fellow nail polish lovers!!  Happy Tuesday!  As you read this, I'm on my way to Las Vegas for a conference.  It's my first time going there, so I'm really excited.  And while I'll be there for work, I hope to have a good time sightseeing.  Maybe I'll find some good polish too, heehee!

Our challenge this Twinsie Tuesday was to create a half moon manicure using a pastel and a neon.  Notice, I used the term "challenge."  To be honest, I was not looking forward to this one.  I personally am not a fan of half moon manicures.  I just don't get the appeal of half a circle on your nail.  I have seen a handful that I've liked, but it's just not for me.  Anyhoo, that's one of the beauties of Twinsie Tuesday, it gets you out of your comfort zone.

I decided to go with Orly Frolic, one of my very few neons, and Revlon Lily, one of my favorite pastels.  I did a layer of Frolic (it's a one coater) and because it dries extremely quickly, I waited maybe 5 minutes, if that much, before placing reinforcements at the base of the nail.  I then added two coats of Lily and removed the reinforcements.  Finally, I added a coat of Out the Door Top Coat (a quick dry).

I sort of liked this mani, but didn't at the same time.  It was weird.  I really like the color combo and I think it's a really fun look, but it was just a bit much for me.  Also, I was a bit annoyed that all my half moons weren't centered and that the polish streaked on some of the nails when I added the top coat.  Overall though, I'd say it wasn't bad for my first try.

What do you guys think of this mani?  Are you into half moon manicures?

Don't forget to check out my twinsies and see what half moon manicures they came up with!

  2. I love this color combo (I own Frolic, I might try something similar) and I think you half moon it's really pretty :-)
This is a kind of mani I sometimes do (with reinforcements, too...I know it's hard to center them :-P), I think it's a nice way to use two colors (for instance I prefer half moons to a funky french) but after all "to each his/her own", right?

    1. That's a good alternative. Maybe if I'm in the mood to try again, I'll do it that way.

  18. I really like how this came out. The color combo is amazing. I haven't done a successful half moon mani in my life and I did find it a bit weird when I tried it. Where do you get those reinforcements you all use? I tried using french mani guides and it didn't turn out too well.
